Payra 1320 MW Coal-Fired Power Plant

Project Details

In Bangladesh, the natural gas reserve is depleting, and recently gas demands are increasing in other sectors. So, the Government of Bangladesh has decided to install new coal-based power plants for future power generation expansion. With the objective of fuel diversification for sustainable power generation and reliable electricity supply, Bangladesh-China Power Company (Pvt) Limited (Joint venture of North-West Power Generation Company Limited (An Enterprise of Bangladesh Power Development Board) and CMC, China) is developing the 1st phase of 1320 MW thermal power plant in Patuakhali district covering areas of Dhankhali Union under Kalapara Upazila. Considering the power demand, BCPCL has planned to install the 2nd phase coal-based thermal power plant in the same premises.

EQMS Consulting Limited was engaged from the beginning of this milestone project in Bangladesh. EQMS carried out the pre-feasibility study of Phase I project jointly with OMS Solution. Initial Environmental Examination (IEE), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and Initial Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) of Phase I project were carried out by EQMS Consulting Limited. Based on the satisfactory deliverable BCPCL has entrusted the Environmental Impact Assessment study of Payra 1320 MW Thermal Power Plant (2nd Phase) Project to EQMS Consulting Limited.
